About The Position

This role is for the Latin Jazz Band at Amigos School, specifically for the Strings Teacher. The Latin Band is an after-school VPA formal program where students are exposed to a variety of jazz styles, learning improvisation skills and perform as a large ensemble for concerts and events. The goal of jazz band is to learn: improvisation, develop rehearsal and practice skills, develop technique and facility on instruments, and listen and analyze different styles of jazz with an emphasis on Latin Jazz. Students will perform in different big band and combo charts.

Requirements

• Must speak Spanish.
• Ability to teach in Spanish language.
• Experience directing and teaching emerging musicians (grades 6-8).

Nice To Haves

• Strings teaching experience.
• Experience with Latin Jazz music.

Responsibilities

• Direct and teach emerging musicians in upper schools from 6th to 8th grade at Amigos School.
• Work with Amigos to create performance opportunities and rehearsals.
• Coordinate rehearsals and learning in Latin jazz music.
• Care for and maintain instruments.
• Create and commit to a full year of rehearsals with performances.
