AVER is seeking a Latent Bridge Examiner (LBE) to serve as a critical member of the West forensic team, supporting both the Tenprint and Latent Print Units with a (50/50 split). This role involves performing specialized fingerprint analysis, casework management, team training, and process improvement. Requirements

  • AA Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in related field or at least 10+ years of experience in print comparison in lieu of degree is required.
  • IAI Certified Tenprint Examiner
  • Ability to collaborate with attorneys via phone or Teams outside standard workdays (schedule adjustments provided to comply with California law).
  • Willingness and ability to adjust schedule for urgent, high-profile latent cases as required (with adherence to California law).
  • Proficiency in fingerprint sizing and CABIS (Computerized Automated Biometric Identification System) searching.
  • Experience working collaboratively with both Tenprint and Latent Print Units.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government clearance (Public Trust).
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ensure print comparison and identification accuracy at or above the SLA of 99.95% for the past two years (collectively).
  • Billing accuracy of 90% or higher for the past two years.
  • Experience reviewing SOPs for management purposes.
  • Experience training staff on new tools and techniques used in print examination.

Responsibilities

  • Execute all standard Tenprint Examiner responsibilities with consistent adherence to established protocols and scheduling, ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability.
  • Conduct thorough CABIS comparisons and efficiently complete CABIS ULF transactions to optimize support for Tenprint staff searches and maximize identification accuracy.
  • Independently complete and assign deportation-related casework, maintaining rigorous oversight and final approval to ensure all documentation and evidentiary requirements are met without error.
  • Perform complex casework for the OFS and expertly handle Tenprint cases that exceed the technical scope of the Tenprint floor, demonstrating advanced analytical skills and technical judgment.
  • Assign, review, and formally sign off on all latent print casework, maintaining strict quality control and compliance with laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee and manage Interop queue operations, including timely processing of deletion requests and comprehensive report completion to support seamless interdepartmental workflow and data integrity.
  • Provide expert pre-trial observations and consultations, delivering clear and defensible findings to legal teams, and ensuring readiness for courtroom testimony as needed.
  • Offer specialized deportation consultations, leveraging subject matter expertise to support case resolution and facilitate communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-profile latent print cases requiring immediate intervention, ensuring 24/7 availability and decisive action in the absence of West Coast Leads to support urgent operational needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CABIS misanalysis issues, apply advanced technical knowledge to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
  • Lead comprehensive onboarding and continuous training for newly hired latent examiners, ensuring mastery of Latent Print Unit (LPU) policies and procedures (SOPs) and adherence to rigorous quality standards.
  • Work proactively with LPU Oversight to critically evaluate, update, and enhance SOPs, while spearheading the restructuring of Interop processes to align with evolving operational and accreditation requirements.
  • Continuously refine and advance the LPU Training Plan, incorporating best practices, emerging methodologies, and feedback to maximize examiner proficiency and unit performance.
  • Design, develop, and implement a robust 16-hour Testimony Course to meet International Association for Identification (IAI) approval and certification standards, preparing examiners for expert courtroom testimony and legal scrutiny.
  • Identify, create, and deliver specialized training courses in response to operational needs, anticipating future challenges and supporting the ongoing professional development of LPU staff.
