  • 4+ years of professional welding experience with demonstrated proficiency in automated or robotic welding systems
  • Proven experience programming and operating laser welding systems
  • Strong background in manual welding methods (TIG/GTAW) as foundation for automated process development
  • Current welding certifications (AWS D17.1 or equivalent aerospace welding standard preferred)
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and welding procedure specifications (WPS/PQR)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight and solve complex welding process challenges

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with laser welding systems and process development
  • Experience welding rocket engine components, pressure vessels, or propulsion system hardware
  • Proficiency welding Inconel 625, 718, stainless steel 300-series, stainless steel 400-series and titanium alloys with laser processes
  • Experience with robotic programming (ABB, KUKA, Fanuc, or similar platforms)
  • AWS Certified Welder, Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or Certified Robotic Arc Welding credentials
  • Experience developing welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and fixturing for new products
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other welders in automated welding operations
  • Experience with weld-related root cause analysis, statistical process control, and corrective action implementation
  • Strong technical and software skills (CAD, CNC/robotic programming, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with LOX/GOX compatible welding and cleanliness requirements

Responsibilities

  • Program, setup, and autonomously operate laser vacuum welding systems for precision joining of aerospace thruster components including combustion chambers, nozzles, and pressure vessels
  • Develop and optimize laser welding parameters (power, speed, focal position, pulse characteristics, beam manipulation) for various material combinations and joint configurations
  • Create and modify robotic welding programs including path planning, motion control, and process synchronization
  • Design and implement welding fixtures and part positioning systems to support automated laser welding operations
  • Weld exotic materials including Inconel alloys, stainless steels, titanium, and nickel-based superalloys to exacting specifications
  • Execute manual precision welding operations using TIG (GTAW), orbital TIG, and other appropriate methods when required
  • Troubleshoot welding defects and implement corrective actions through process parameter adjustment or fixturing modifications
  • Develop technical plans for new welding processes, automation strategies, and fixturing for team review
  • Identify, develop, and deploy new welding methods and automation approaches to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule
  • Develop and refine welding work instructions and process specifications including welding procedures (WPS), robotic programs, and post-weld treatment
  • Provide independent technical contributions and mentorship for skill development of Level I and II welders
  • Identify non-conformances and escapes, support and deploy corrective actions
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and program teams on weld-related technical challenges and automation opportunities
