About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Laser Systems Hardware Engineering Lead to join their EO/IR Capability Group. This group focuses on developing innovative hardware solutions for advanced EO/IR Laser systems within the CEMA business area. The role involves leading a team in the development and maturation of these systems, with responsibilities including hardware engineering leadership for laser subsystems, optical component measurements, optical vendor support, performance improvement, task generation, schedule and budget management, optical subsystem analysis, and prototype testing and validation. The work environment is fast-paced and challenging, offering significant growth opportunities. Successful candidates will be comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams, be self-guided, generate solutions to complex problems, present work to customers, and contribute to new project proposals. A deep understanding of optical architecture and optical system design is essential, and the candidate will be considered a subject matter expert in this area.

Requirements

In-depth understanding in one or more of the following: Lasers, Laser Systems, Laser Optics, Precision Pointing, EOIR Systems, Optical Systems.
Experience with optics manufacturing, manufacturing process and coatings.
Strong Optical Industry knowledge to help inform supplier selection, material selection, etc.
Experience with optical analysis, optical metrology and optical component testing.
Experience Integrating and testing hardware and optical components and subsystems in a laboratory environment.
Experience/ability/knowledge of laser damage threshold.
Experience presenting proposals/designs to customers (internal and external).
Ability to collect, analyze, and document EO/IR hardware requirements.
Ability to support proposals.
Willingness to provide manufacturing support for optical test equipment.
Effective oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
Experience with various phases of lifecycle management including: concept, early development, initial prototype, production and sustainment.
Experience working with cross functional teams, and strong collaboration in doing so.
Domestic Travel: Up to 10%

Responsibilities

Laser Systems Hardware Lead with broad knowledge of Optical and Laser Systems for EO/IR Technology.
Optical Vendor Support which requires optical manufacturing and coating knowledge.
Self-guided to solve complex problems and is viewed as a subject matter expert in optics and EO/IR technology, with the ability to mentor junior engineers.
Contribute to program plans and proposals, schedules and design for optical subsystems.
Devise and execute laboratory demonstrations of prototypes and Lead/Assist with integration of assemblies into systems.
Customer presentations and informal interactions in support of programs.
Contribute to program progress reports.
Develops solutions to complex problems and often works independently to resolve issues.
Ability to travel 10% for optical supplier support.
