About The Position

Operate computer-controlled Co2 or fiber laser cutting machine to perform one or more functions. Ensure proper production work flow using SigmaNest. This role involves prioritizing work, operating lasers efficiently, and utilizing various automation and nesting software. The operator will create programs, load raw materials, manage utilities, maintain machines, and monitor the work cell to ensure proper operation and quality standards. Continuous improvement in workflow, quality, speed, and scrap rates is expected. May include other fabrication duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma, GED or equivalent school with relevant work experience
  • Minimum 1-3 years of applicable work experience
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude, strong analytical skills and strong computer skills
  • Must be able to read and understand established procedures and detailed work instructions
  • Experience of operating basic CNC machine controls/programming
  • Ability to operate forklift and overhead hoist in a safe and orderly manner
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs. and stand, sit, squat or walk for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years Operating Co2 Mazak and/or fiber lasers
  • 2+ years Using SigmaNest or similar nesting software
  • 2+ years using FMS Automation, HTX Mazak, STX Mazak, and/or Laserflex Automation
  • 2+ years maintaining Co2 Mazak and/or fiber lasers

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize work and operate lasers efficiently
  • Use programs including FMS Automation, HTX Mazak, STX Mazak, and/or Laserflex Automation
  • Utilize SigmaNest nesting software to create tasks
  • Create programs, load raw materials, and operate the lasers using the correct settings/conditions
  • Managing various utilities including compressed air, nitrogen, power supplies, etc.
  • Maintain machines – operation, periodic cleanings, maintenance and addressing breakdowns
  • Use the Ventrac Network to manage the high volume of jobs going through this work cell
  • Monitor the work cell via control panels, gauges, charts, alarms, inspection of operation, etc. to ensure it is operating properly and producing parts to VPI standards
  • Strive for continuous improvement in operations of the work cell – including workflow, quality & speed of cut, scrap rates, etc.
  • Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions/errors
  • May include other fabrication duties
