About The Position

The Laser Operator is responsible for performing machine start-up, warm-up, and shut down operations, ensuring all procedures are followed correctly. This includes selecting, measuring, assembling, and setting up the machine using precision gauges and instruments. The operator will also mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces. They will create nests/programs for the laser machines, identify preventative maintenance points, and perform maintenance tasks on the laser cutting head. Additionally, the operator will determine specifications for tooling set-up, machine operation, and programming using blueprints and instructions. They will start automatic operation, monitor machine performance, and stop the machine for adjustments or to remove finished work pieces. Responsibilities also include retrieving raw material and moving finished parts to subsequent work centers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform machine start-up, warm-up and shut down operations.
  • Select, measure, assemble, and set machine using precision gauges and instruments.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces.
  • Modify technology tables, perform import/call up program from different source; edit, split and store part programs.
  • Create nests/programs to be run on the laser machines.
  • Identify preventative maintenance points from the operator’s manual.
  • Remove, disassemble, and reassemble laser cutting head.
  • Inspect and clean cutting lens.
  • Perform nozzle alignment and focus test.
  • Determine specifications or procedures for tooling set-up, machine operation, work piece dimensions, or numerical control sequences using blueprints, instructions, and machine knowledge.
  • Position and secure work piece on machine bed, indexing table, fixture, or dispensing or holding device.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to position tools, synchronize, or regulate cutting depth, speed, and feed.
  • Start automatic operation of numerical control machine to machine parts or test setup, work piece dimensions, or programming.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays to detect malfunctions and compare readings to specifications.
  • Stop machine to remove finished work piece or change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequence.
  • Retrieve raw material and move finished parts to subsequent work-center(s).
  • Other Duties as assigned.
