About The Position

This position is responsible for providing daily academic intervention in the area of reading and/or math, assessing achievement, progress-monitoring and reporting throughout the school year. It is essential to maintain high expectations for all students and be committed to their learning and success. Possesses a comprehensive understanding of best practices in reading and/or math development, pedagogy, assessment, progress monitoring and instruction. Requirements

  • Possess or qualify for the immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an elementary ed (K-8) endorsement
  • Has a minimum of three years K-5 teaching experience required, preferably with a variety of grade levels.
  • Master’s degree in Education or extensive coursework in reading.
  • Experience with a variety of assessment tools.
  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Knowledge of project-based classroom organization.
  • Commitment to the education profession by evidence of participation in curriculum development, District and building committees, meetings, and projects.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement standards and EALRs
  • Training in using appropriate technology for digital media, including Adobe Products, Microsoft Office, blogs, etc.
  • Commitment to increasing one’s own knowledge and skills about technology and meaningful integration of technology into instruction
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when needed.
  • Ability to reflect on own professional practice and make adaptations to improve instruction
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier II and Tier III instruction in a Response to Intervention model for struggling students K-5
  • Plan and provide daily focused, research based interventions to students using approved BSD instructional materials
  • Conduct assessments as necessary to monitor the learning progress of students by frequently checking for understanding and adjusting accordingly
  • Support school wide benchmark assessments and progress monitoring
  • Continually analyze student data from multiple sources and use it to inform instructional decisions
  • Collaborate and communicate with the classroom teacher to ensure consistency of instruction
  • Assist with student placement and flexible grouping decisions based on assessed student needs
  • Attend or participate in all required meetings and work collaboratively with colleagues in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional growth
  • Confer with students, parents or guardians, and staff in an open and positive manner to provide guidance, evaluation, and encouragement of student achievement
  • Assist with the development and execution of parent involvement initiatives
  • Maintain lists of students in need of academic support for LAP and Title I records and completes applicable paperwork as needed
  • Demonstrate flexibility in dealing with change and be willing to experiment with new instructional strategies and materials
  • Assist with professional development for the school staff and provides training in the form of workshops, study groups, etc.
