Language Teacher Assistant
About The Position
The Language Teacher Assistant supports Language Teachers in planning, preparing, and conducting language lessons, classroom activities, and childcare services. The role assists with classroom and outdoor activities, field trips, and family engagement events. Language immersion activities are intended to support children’s development and fluency in the Keres language and culture. The assistant provides culturally relevant, quality childcare for children from 8 weeks to 13 years of age, in accordance with departmental, federal, and tribal standards, regulations, and laws. The position involves working closely with children from birth through age 12, supporting daily activities, language learning, classroom needs, and age-appropriate educational experiences. The assistant should enjoy working with children, demonstrate patience and professionalism, and be committed to supporting language and cultural development. The role requires at least 20 hours per week, with full-time hours during Summer Break.
Requirements
- Must be an enrolled tribal member of Santo Domingo Pueblo.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience as a childcare provider/caregiver and/or in teaching.
- Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within a reasonable time.
- Highly motivated to learn and speak Keres.
- Experience and knowledge of Kewa culture and proper protocols.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification and complete required Health and Safety Training within 3 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Santo Domingo Pueblo liability insurance requirements and maintain insurance eligibility.
- Must pass a background check and new-hire drug screening.
- Must demonstrate patience and professionalism and be committed to supporting children’s development and the preservation of language and culture.
