About The Position

The Language Arts Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, literature, and communication skills to students in grades 5–8. The teacher creates a positive, faith-filled learning environment that promotes academic excellence, critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading and writing while supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of middle school literacy development and instructional best practices.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically challenging learning environment.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, or willingness to support and uphold the mission, philosophy, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent learning and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire a love of literature and writing.
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues, parents, and school leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Language Arts, or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching certification or eligibility for certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state academic standards and the school's curriculum.
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of learners.
  • Assess student progress through formal and informal assessments and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate student progress with parents and guardians.
  • Foster strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.
  • Integrate educational technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and respectful classroom environment that encourages responsibility and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and support staff to promote student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and committee work as assigned.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, extracurricular activities, and school functions.
  • Model Christian values through words, actions, and professional conduct.
  • Support the mission of Catholic education by integrating Gospel values and Catholic teachings into daily classroom life.
  • Encourage students to demonstrate respect, compassion, integrity, and service to others.
  • Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and other faith formation activities.
