About The Position

This is a full-time position with stable hours, even during rainy weeks. Crews work Monday - Friday from 7:00am until 3:30pm. The role involves assisting in the routine maintenance of KICA common areas, including mowing, maintenance, installation, and growing of all plant material. Typical tasks include large and small tree pruning, watering plant material, applying pesticides and fertilizers, invasive species removal, plant installation, pine straw application, and mulching. The position requires operating various types of small power equipment, hand equipment, and mowers, as well as maintaining fuel and fluid levels, reporting equipment issues, and cleaning maintenance areas. The landscaper will also operate dump trucks, aerial lifts, tractors, and other large equipment, and perform other duties as directed by a supervisor or crew leader, while observing and following all KICA safety policies and rules.

Requirements

Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscaped area maintenance work.
Knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment, and the ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to work under supervision and solitary.
A pleasant attitude and customer service skills.
Lifting object weighing up to 50 lbs. (fertilizer bags, bales of straw, debris, etc.)
Walking over extended distances carrying equipment that weighs in excess of 20 lbs. (string trimmers, edger, backpack blowers and sprayers)
Exposure to high heat, humidity, cold as well as dusty and rainy conditions.
Possible exposure to various insect bites (mosquitoes, flies, etc.) as well as caustic plants such as poison ivy and oak.
Job may require repetitive motion, bending over and kneeling for extended periods.
Employee may be working in areas where chemicals are being applied or stored.
The operation of a motor vehicle and an equipment trailer.
Employee may be exposed to loud noises and flying debris.
Employee will be working with equipment with spinning blades, string trimmers, sharp teeth and edges and other small tools.
Employee may also be required to work in close proximity to roadways with heavy vehicle traffic.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and driving record check.
Maintain a valid South Carolina Drivers License

Responsibilities

Assists in the routine maintenance of KICA common areas i.e. mowing, maintenance, installation, and growing of all plant material.
Performs large and small tree pruning; watering plant material; apply pesticides and fertilizers to turf grass and plants; invasive species removal, plant installation, pine straw application, and or mulching.
Operates all types of small power, hand equipment, and mowers.
Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis, reports equipment problems or failure to the Head Mechanic immediately, returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility, fills out daily equipment check-sheets, and cleans the maintenance areas.
Reports any island conditions out of the ordinary.
Operates dump trucks, aerial lifts, tractors, and other large equipment.
Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor or crew leader.
Observes and follows all KICA safety policies and rules.
