About The Position

The Landscape Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and directing the daily operations of landscape installation projects from start to completion. Reporting to the Landscape Operations Manager, this position ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards. The Landscape Site Superintendent serves as a resource and mentor for Foremen and Crew Leaders by providing guidance, support, problem-solving assistance, and field training. This role helps ensure field leadership teams have the tools, knowledge, and direction necessary to execute projects safely, efficiently, and according to company standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of landscape construction or landscape installation experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory, foreman, superintendent, or leadership role.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate or oversee the operation of: Company vehicles and trailers, Forklifts, Skid steers, Excavators, Chainsaws, Rototillers, Aerators, Other landscape construction equipment
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape plans, construction drawings, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency with project documentation and reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience overseeing commercial landscape installation projects preferred.
  • Experience with irrigation, hardscape, drainage, planting, grading, and site restoration preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Landscape Industry Certified Technician or related certification.
  • Experience with commercial landscape construction projects exceeding $100,000.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises approximately 10–15 employees, depending on project scope and workload.
  • Leads and develops Crew Leaders and field personnel to achieve project goals and performance expectations.
  • Provides coaching, training, mentoring, and performance feedback to employees.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs daily work activities.
  • Assists with employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and recognition programs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable employment laws.
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Designers, and Estimators to understand project requirements, schedules, budgets, and specifications.
  • Review landscape plans, construction documents, irrigation layouts, grading plans, and project specifications.
  • Develop and execute installation plans that maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and materials to meet project schedules.
  • Manage all day-to-day field operations for assigned landscape installation projects.
  • Ensure crews are properly staffed and equipped to complete assigned work.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust resources as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to maintain quality standards.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to Foremen, Crew Leaders, and field personnel.
  • Assist Foremen in planning daily activities, allocating resources, and resolving field challenges.
  • Mentor and develop field leaders to strengthen their leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ensure Foremen and Crew Leaders understand project goals, quality expectations, safety requirements, and production targets.
  • Work closely with Foremen to monitor crew performance and identify training and development opportunities.
  • Support field leadership in resolving employee concerns, maintaining morale, and promoting a positive team culture.
  • Ensure all landscape installations meet project specifications, client expectations, and company quality standards.
  • Conduct quality inspections throughout the construction process.
  • Identify deficiencies and implement corrective measures promptly.
  • Verify the proper installation of plant material, hardscape features, irrigation systems, drainage components, and site amenities.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and field inspections.
  • Ensure employees utilize proper PPE and safe work practices.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Coordinate the delivery, staging, and use of materials and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and material usage.
  • Ensure company vehicles, trailers, and equipment are maintained and operated safely.
  • Control costs by minimizing waste and maximizing equipment utilization.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Provide project updates and address questions or concerns in a professional manner.
  • Maintain positive client relationships throughout the duration of the project.
  • Proactively identify and communicate project changes or delays.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production logs, safety records, and project documentation.
  • Track labor hours, equipment usage, and material consumption.
  • Document project progress through reports and photographs as required.
  • Communicate project status and field issues to the Project Manager.
  • Identify and resolve field issues that impact project schedules, budgets, or quality.
  • Make informed decisions and provide practical solutions to maintain project momentum.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and subcontractors to address construction challenges.
