About The Position

Under the direction of the Department Director, this entry-level position will perform professional work related to the City of Pembroke Pines Landscape Development Code. Work includes plan review, research, inspections, customer service to residents and businesses, and supporting projects that meet the City's landscaping goals. The employee will also work collaboratively with the administration to research, develop, coordinate, and promote effective sustainability initiatives to reduce the City’s impact on the environment. Work is reviewed through observation and written reports for adherence to established policies, procedures, and codes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in arboriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture, forestry, urban and regional planning or a closely related field.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field plus 2 years of landscape experience; or No degree: 5 years of full‑time landscape or landscape inspection experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with additional design software preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Landscape Inspector and/or ISA Certified Arborist credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Review landscape plans for compliance with the City's Land Development Code and Code of Ordinances.
  • Inspect landscape materials, installation, and landscape maintenance contracts for compliance; identify deficiencies and direct corrective action.
  • Inspect work in progress and completed landscape projects—public and private—to ensure adherence to approved plans, landscape standards, and specifications.
  • Prepare preliminary landscape design concepts, working drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for City landscape projects as needed.
  • Inform property owners, contractors, and developers of deficiencies in landscaping requirements and explain corrective steps.
  • Provide clear explanations of City landscape codes to residents, businesses, and development applicants.
  • Respond to and investigate complaints concerning landscape‑related ordinance violations.
  • Review and issue permits for tree removal or relocation in accordance with City regulations.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Department Director.
  • Participate in events and/or public meetings during and after work hours.
  • Interact professionally with members of the public and development community.
  • Review and Process permit applications for tree removal or relocation.
  • Promote proper landscaping practices and sustainability initiatives at City events and after hours meetings.
