About The Position

Responsible for maintaining the appearance and health of front beds, feature beds, and other high-visibility landscape areas across military housing and facilities. This role focuses on weed control, plant care, and detail-oriented maintenance to ensure a clean, professional standard that reflects well on the community.

Requirements

  • Employee must be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws
  • Experience in landscape maintenance, horticulture, or groundskeeping.
  • Familiarity with ornamental plant care and weed control.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including cold climates.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body in order to be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance;
  • Be able to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with string trimming and hand tools preferred
  • Understanding of proper pruning techniques
  • Ability to recognize what “good” looks like in a maintained landscape
  • Basic knowledge of local plant species and weeds (or willingness to learn quickly)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain weed-free ornamental beds using string trimming, hand weeding, and approved methods
  • Perform detail trimming around shrubs, trees, signage, and structures without causing damage
  • Conduct basic shrub and small tree pruning to maintain shape, health, and visibility
  • Identify and manage common local weeds, annuals, perennials, and shrubs
  • Remove debris, dead plant material, and litter from beds and landscaped areas
  • Maintain clean bed edges and defined transitions between turf and landscape areas
  • Assist with seasonal tasks such as plant rotations, mulching, and bed cleanups
  • Monitor plant health and report issues (disease, damage, irrigation problems)
  • Operate and maintain tools such as string trimmers, hand tools, and pruning equipment safely and effectively
  • Follow all safety standards and military base requirements
