About The Position

Timmons Group is seeking a Landscape Designer I or II for their Charlottesville, VA office. The landscape architecture and land planning team works on diverse projects for commercial, mixed-use, parks and open space, energy and renewables, campus and institution, and multi-multifamily clients. The studio focuses on creating dynamic, timeless places tailored to client goals and community needs. They are looking for self-motivated individuals passionate about the built environment, design at all scales, and comfortable in a collaborative studio culture. The role involves working in the office up to four days per week with flexible scheduling. The company offers mentorship, professional development, and career growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program is preferred, but a non-accredited degree may be considered.
  • For Landscape Designer I: New graduates or professionals with up to 2 years’ experience in landscape architecture.
  • For Landscape Designer II: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in landscape architecture.
  • Team player with excellent design, graphic, and communication skills.
  • Creative, open-minded, and organized.
  • Knowledge of plants and experience in developing landscape plans.
  • Experience in producing high-quality concept drawings and presentations.
  • Experience in producing construction documentation drawings.
  • Experience in construction administration and field work.
  • Experience with both in-office and remote collaboration.
  • Experience in design software including AutoCAD, Land F/X, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and 3D modeling programs.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Suite applications, BlueBeam PDF, and construction management software(s).
  • High energy, creative, flexible, patient, self-starters willing to work at a dynamic pace.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GIS is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Technical Production (85-90%): Collaborate with project managers and team members on various project types and scales. Assist project teams with landscape plan development through all phases (site inventory, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documents). Prepare illustrative design plans and 3D renderings. Assist teams in preparing construction cost estimates. Act as an advocate for landscape architecture at Timmons Group.
  • Administrative Management and Training (10-15%): Attend weekly meetings for project and workplan coordination. Attend monthly design team meetings and serve as a design resource for projects and department standards. Participate in training and onboarding of new employees. Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
