About The Position

The Landscape Architect reports to the Campus Planner and University Landscape Architect, who leads the Campus Planning and Space Management ( CPSM ) unit within Facilities Planning and Design. The position assists the Campus Planner and University Landscape Architect ( CPULA ) in advancing the planning, design, and stewardship of UNC’s campus and built environment. The Landscape Architect coordinates the landscape portion of capital projects including hardscape design and planting plans; ensures that capital projects implement the landscape and open space network outlined in the Campus Master Plan; coordinates with municipal, regional, and state agencies that have jurisdiction over development on University property; functions as a project manager for University capital improvement projects; develops and implements design guidelines for landscape architecture and landscape construction; and provides staff support to University committees and task Forces.

Requirements

  • A valid North Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one prior to effective date of hire.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in landscape architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of current landscape architectural practices and standards.
  • Excellent graphic communication skills and the ability to explain complicated spatial ideas clearly.
  • Proficiency with CAD based programs and design software (Adobe creative suite or similar alternative).
  • Demonstrated design experience across a variety of scales and ability to transition projects from concept design to technical documentation to construction.
  • Construction administration experience.
  • Expertise in planting design and ability to document and transition proposed plans successfully through to install.
  • Ability to work cooperatively across disciplines and organization structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced professional knowledge in landscape architecture and exercise independent judgment in selecting design methods, materials, and technical standards.

  • Three to five years of landscape architectural experience.
