Summary Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Landscape Architect III to provide design services for Iowa State University campus facilities. Responsibilities include: Designs and develops concepts, plans, and cost estimates for campus hardscape and landscape projects to improve site function, improve safety, enhance campus character and aesthetics, and support experiential learning. Reviews schematic design, design development, construction plans, specifications, details, and design submittals for university physical facilities to ensure compliance with project program, Iowa State University standards, and state and federal regulations such as the Americans with Disabilities Act. Provides advice and professional expertise on the design, installation, and maintenance of campus landscape and hardscape elements. Researches and develops campus construction standards, planting details, and best management practices for storm water management and pavement preservation. Responsible for campus signage (directory, Building and parking signs). Maintains inventories and maps of the campus landscape including plant material, site furnishings, bike parking, roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and Cemetery. Organizes, manages, and records sustainable campus tree programs such as TreeCycle and Tree Campus USA. Provides graphics for online campus map and university maps. Represents Iowa State University in cemetery matters with faculty, staff and their families, funeral homes, and the public. Interfaces with student organizations, student government and faculty committees on outdoor installation proposals as FPM representative. Interviews, hires, and supervises Landscape Design Services student employees. The successful candidate will possess a Professional Landscape Architect licensure in the State of Iowa. This role requires good communication skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high-level of professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals. Facilities Planning and Management is a service organization working to enrich, support and preserve the Iowa State University campus. The term "facilities" refers to all the buildings, grounds, walks, drives, parking lots, and utility systems belonging to ISU, which means our staff covers nearly every facet of campus. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team) May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist Provides guidance to students Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
