About The Position

As a registered Landscape Architect, this role provides the first level of technical review for in-house and consultant-produced design work products. It involves developing quality control procedures for landscape architectural work, directly supervising employees and their work within the Landscape Architect Design Service of the Roadside Development Section. The position requires sealing Landscape Architectural plans and specifications, including those for planting, irrigation, aesthetic items, landform graphics, walks, paths, hardscapes, erosion control, and revegetation. Additionally, it involves providing the scope of work for and monitoring consultants' design proposals, proposed hours, and fee estimates, as well as reviewing inter-governmental Landscape Maintenance Agreements. Recommendations to the Section Manager regarding new or needed policy changes in technical areas are also a key part of this role. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. Requirements

  • Bachelor, or higher degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • Registration as a Professional Landscape Architect in Arizona.
  • Five (5) years minimum as a registered Landscape Architect working on transportation projects.
  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of plant materials and horticulture requirements for urban and agronomic requirements for revegetation and vegetation control.
  • Understanding of pesticides, horticulture practices, maintenance requirements, Clean Water and Clean Air Act, Native Plant law.
  • Knowledge of state and federal weed laws and appropriate methods of control.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and provide technical expertise for service employees and consultants designing projects requiring considerable professional judgment and creative effort.
  • Participate and coordinate technical reviews.
  • Direct the preparation and review of landscape architectural plans, specifications, research, reports, and other material, ensuring compatibility with engineering plans and requirements from ADOT and consultants, and recommending corrections for implementation.
  • Compose and authorize correspondence dealing with public and project-level issues.
  • Make oral presentations and prepare technical administrative and status reports for use at the Section, Group, and Division Level.
