About The Position

Position requires performance of a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work relating to the daily operation of the Iron County Solid Waste Landfill, including operating equipment, maintaining facilities, adhering to required regulations and procedures, and assisting the general public. Works under the direction and supervision of the Public Works Director and Landfill Assistant Supervisor.

Requirements

A high school diploma (or equivalent)
Three (3) years of experience as commercial driver and/or heavy equipment operator - or an equivalent combination of experience
Valid Utah CDL
Acceptable driving record
Ability to perform heavy lifting of up to 150 pounds
Ability to meet and deal with the public in a positive manner
Knowledge of computer entry is required
Working knowledge of skills, materials and tools used for equipment maintenance and minor repair
Safety practices required by state and other laws
Hazards and safety precautions associated with landfill processing and operations
Hazardous waste regulations and guidelines
Basic interpersonal communication skills
Regulations related to hazardous waste and environmental protection
Ability to operate simple to complex heavy equipment
Ability to operate heavy equipment in various conditions
Ability to perform manual tasks for sustained periods of time
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety regulations
Ability to read and understand prints and plans
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to perform basic math, including handling and balancing cash transactions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public and supervisors
