About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking a Landfill Over the Road Driver to join their team. IWS is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. This is a full-time, non-union position offering competitive pay and comprehensive benefits. All routes are local, ensuring drivers are home daily.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement and tanker endorsement.
  • Clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL-A within the last 7 years.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Must be able to read and understand a map.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Must be willing and able to work required hours as allowed under DOT regulation, which may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuge company is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the truck in compliance with IWS’s safety standards, OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Ensure that the container/tank and its content are always secure.
  • Perform pre- and post-route inspections of the assigned truck and document any safety issues on standard reports.
  • Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers of other equipment in need of repair, and report any issues to the manager.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the safety of themselves, colleagues, trucks, and other equipment and property.
  • Immediately notify the manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, or contracting partners at all times.
  • Receive complaints about schedules and quality of service, make note of and report on such complaints, and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
