About The Position

This position is responsible for operating a landfill in compliance with state and federal regulations. It involves establishing and maintaining vegetation, installing and maintaining erosion and sedimentation control structures, and operating heavy machinery such as a dump truck, hydroseeder, and bulldozer. The role also includes inspecting loads, assisting customers, managing deposits and inventory, preparing duty assignments for inmates, and enforcing environmental regulations through inspections and reporting.

Requirements

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of waste disposal activities.
Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation best management practices.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of report preparation, filing, and records management.
Skill in problem solving and decision making.
Skill in management and supervision of inmate laborers.
Skill in operating standard office equipment including work related computer applications.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to operate heavy equipment.
Must possess a Commercial Driver's license or have the ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s license (with applicable endorsements) within the first six weeks of employment.
Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.

Responsibilities

Operate a landfill in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Establish and maintain vegetation on slopes and disturbed areas.
Install and maintain erosion and sedimentation control structures.
Drive dump truck and operate hydroseeder.
Inspect loads and direct to proper disposal area.
Assist customers with questions and concerns; maintain radio contact with landfill personnel.
Make daily bank deposits; maintain division inventory of parts and supplies.
Prepare daily interior and exterior duty assignments for inmates; transport inmates to and from work sites and Muscogee County Prison.
Enforce environmental regulations; complete regular inspections of facilities and submit all required reports.
Operate bulldozer.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
