About The Position

The Landfill Operations Supervisor is responsible for selecting, supervising, and training employees in their respective positions. This role involves safely planning, organizing, controlling, and directing landfill operations to achieve objectives, while providing leadership that fosters positive employee relations. The supervisor is expected to project a professional corporate image, manage resources effectively, implement a sound risk management program, and maintain high production standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four (4) year college or university and/or a demonstrated record of serving in an operational environment requiring analytical and general management skills.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in the waste or landfill industry or an equivalent combination of required education and experience.
  • Acquire and maintain the SWANA Manager of Landfill Operations certification.
  • Proficiency with the operation of dump truck, bulldozer, compactor, track hoe, loader, and backhoe.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the equipment required to operate a landfill.
  • Familiarity with non-hazardous waste regulations at every operation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instruction and procedure manuals, construction & permit drawings, and general correspondence.

Responsibilities

  • Sustain a productive and motivated workforce by screening, selecting, hiring, training, developing, and evaluating personnel.
  • Adhere to all wage and hour laws and compensate personnel accurately.
  • Practice progressive discipline for employee performance issues.
  • Ensure safe working conditions at each job.
  • Plan and operate landfill operations to optimize personnel and equipment utilization.
  • Conduct annual employee performance reviews and submit compensation change recommendations.
  • Schedule and conduct safety meetings, documenting attendees and topics, and ensure employees follow safety guidelines.
  • Establish and review productivity standards for all operational phases.
  • Protect and preserve all company assets.
  • Promote an effective safety program to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Investigate accidents and prepare necessary paperwork.
  • Ensure routine operator observations are completed.
  • Ensure proper supply and usage of all safety equipment.
  • Operate equipment as necessary.
  • Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required or requested by management.
