About The Position

As a Land Use Planning Intern, you will join our Land Use and Planning Team in our Westwood, MA or Worcester, MA office, where you’ll play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast. Working with industry experts, you’ll tackle complex challenges that strengthen community resilience and advance environmental sustainability. Our Land Use Team and ProjectsNearly 120 professional engineers strong and recent recipients of multiple ACEC Engineering Excellence and ASCE Project Awards, our senior technical and project management leaders have earned an outstanding reputation with private, state, and local government clients. We assist clients from the initial conceptual stages of a project through schematic design, design development, permitting, construction documents, bidding, and construction oversight. Well versed in local, state, and federal regulations and permitting requirements, as well as ever evolving climate change impacts and concerns, we strive to incorporate sustainability and resiliency into our site plans and designs.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program pursuing a degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
  • Previous and relevant work experience
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to solve planning and urban design problems
  • Flexibility, a positive attitude, and open-mindedness

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with design software such as SketchUp, Revit, or other 3D modeling/visualization tools
  • At least 2 years of completed coursework in a college level academic program
  • Previous internship experience in urban planning, land use, environmental policy, or design

Responsibilities

  • Create maps, graphics, and visualizations
  • Support planning documents and public outreach
  • Perform research and analysis related to planning, community development, zoning, and permitting
  • Assist staff with various projects and/or field assignments
  • Perform drafting tasks and create concept-level documents in AutoCAD
  • Assist with the preparation of memos, reports and project documents
