About The Position

TULLOCH is seeking a Land Use Planner to join their team in Sudbury. This new position will report to the Planning Manager and will be responsible for a wide range of duties on various land use planning projects. The role involves working on development projects across northern and central Ontario, guiding proponents through the Planning Act process, leading public consultation meetings, and preparing various planning applications and reports. The planner will also work with municipalities on strategic planning policy, conduct Official Plan reviews, liaise with professionals and agencies, build client relations, and utilize AutoCAD and other design applications.

Requirements

3-5 years experience working in a land use planning and development role, either in the private sector or at the municipal level
Working knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, municipal Official Plans, and Zoning or Development Permit By-Laws
Eligibility for full membership with OPPI within 1 year is required at a minimum
Can exercise independent judgment within defined parameters and in alignment with business objectives
Can adjust your approach as needed to accomplish desired results
Proficiency in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
A valid Class G driver’s license

Nice To Haves

Full membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work on both large and small development projects throughout northern and central Ontario
Lead development proponents through the Planning Act process
Lead Public Consultation meetings and presentations to Committees of Adjustment or Municipal Councils in support of Planning Act applications
Prepare Planning Act applications for Consent, Minor Variance, Zoning By-Law Amendments (Rezoning), Official Plan Amendments, Plan of Subdivision/Condominium, and Site Plan Control
Prepare Planning Justification Reports, assist in preparing for Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) hearings, and prepare and submit various application packages and supporting documentation
Add value to land through critical thinking and rigorous policy analysis
Work with municipalities on strategic planning policy projects
Undertake Official Plan review exercises and municipal needs analyses
Liaise with other professionals, municipalities, and government agencies
Build client relations
Use AutoCAD and other design applications
