About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Land Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey crews in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, supporting renewable energy, infrastructure, construction, boundary, topographic, and ALTA survey projects. This role is ideal for a hands-on survey professional who can lead crews, operate modern survey equipment, maintain accurate field data, and deliver high-quality results while supporting safe and efficient project execution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proven experience in land surveying or a related field, including strong knowledge of surveying principles, field procedures, construction staking, control networks, boundaries, ALTA surveys, and topographic surveys.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor survey crews while working independently and solving field problems with sound judgment.
  • Proficiency operating total stations and GPS/GNSS equipment in static and RTK modes; familiarity with scanners, LiDAR, data collectors, and field technology preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, survey drawings, maps, plats, specifications, and related project documents.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, reliability, and commitment to quality work.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including THC, required.
  • OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain, required.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience may be considered.
  • Experience with commercial and residential land development, public infrastructure, renewable energy, utility-scale, or remote project assignments preferred.
  • Knowledge of Public Land Survey System monument search and recovery preferred.
  • Experience coordinating field activities with survey technicians, engineering staff, contractors, and project managers preferred.
  • Proficiency or exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Revit, MicroStation, ArcGIS, GIS applications, schematics, 3D scanning, LiDAR, or similar drafting and mapping software preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 UAS License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and mentor survey crew members while managing daily field operations on construction, land development, infrastructure, renewable energy, boundary, topographic, ALTA, and design survey projects.
  • Perform field surveying, construction staking, boundary location, topographic mapping, ALTA surveys, design surveys, and project data collection using GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, scanners, LiDAR, differential levels, data collectors, and related equipment.
  • Interpret plans, maps, plats, drawings, specifications, and legal descriptions to complete field assignments accurately and efficiently.
  • Collect, analyze, transfer, and document survey data, including field notes, sketches, data files, reports, equipment logs, and project records.
  • Organize field staking materials, set survey markers, and direct site preparation or brush clearing as needed.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, technicians, contractors, clients, and internal teams to communicate project status, progress, and issues.
  • Maintain strong client and coworker relationships through clear communication, professionalism, sound judgment, and quality service.
  • Follow all company safety, quality management, equipment maintenance, division, regional, and company policies.
  • Protect, clean, and maintain survey equipment, vehicles, hand tools, and field gear.
