About The Position

ABC Home & Commercial Services is seeking a Lawn Specialist Trainer to provide high-quality landscape maintenance training for new employees while also providing exceptional customer service. This role involves leading a team, mentoring new hires on company policies and standards, and assessing their readiness for production crews. The trainer will communicate employee progress to Service Managers and determine if new employees meet ABC's standards for continued employment.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid driver's license with an issue date of at least five years prior to the date of application.
  • Previous Lawn Maintenance experience preferred (5 years minimum).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required.
  • Proficient in the operation of all lawn maintenance equipment and able to become proficient with any new equipment.
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbally.
  • Coach type mentality with the ability to be patient and teach.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure, and maintain good composure.
  • Experience working on high volume routes, providing high quality service, and meeting daily deadlines.
  • Ability to identify the fine details in landscape maintenance that spotlight quality service.
  • Dependable and self-motivated with a desire to learn, grow, and be part of a developing team all year long.
  • Ability to use and navigate electronic tablet/phone, email, text, etc.
  • Ability to walk for long periods of time in extreme temperatures.
  • Work outdoors for extensive periods of time.
  • Able to work long hours during peak season.
  • Climb a ladder up to 10 feet in height.
  • Repetitive walking, lifting, twisting, pulling, pushing, bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and overhead reaching.
  • Lifting or carrying 50-80 lbs. may be required.
  • Ability to carry a 15 lb. backpack repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Properly operate push mowers, riders, hedge trimmers, etc.
  • Must be able to distinguish plants by size, shape, and color.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of five consecutive (current and most recent) years of verifiable good driving history.
  • Any DWI/DUI within the past four years may impact eligibility for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Lawn Maintenance experience (5 years minimum) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality landscape maintenance training for new employees.
  • Act as a crew leader on a designated training route.
  • Ensure new employees understand and can operate the customer information and schedule platform.
  • Coach on reading route notes and following special instructions.
  • Train on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety standards.
  • Instruct new crew members on the proper handling of mowing equipment and safety procedures.
  • Track recommended time of operation for each piece of equipment for new employees.
  • Ensure mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, and all other lawn maintenance work is done in a professional manner.
  • Train to follow the Quality Counts Program to maximize team output through motivation and participation.
  • Direct workflow and work performed by other crew members, ensuring understanding of teamwork and workload distribution.
  • Train on how to become familiar with service contracts and execute above and beyond customer expectations.
  • Train to perform daily routine equipment checks (greasing, oil checks, blade sharpening/replacement, reporting malfunctions via 'Maintain X').
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is in working order, loaded, and secured properly before leaving the shop.
  • Perform Daily Vehicle and Trailer Inspections, reporting any issues to Maintenance Facilities Mechanics and scheduling non-urgent repairs via 'Maintain X'.
  • Immediately report any damage to a customer's property to the Crew Chief and Service Manager.
  • Train to perform a thorough property walk before leaving to inspect the work area, ensuring all contracted services and Quality Counts Program standards are met, and no tools are left behind.
  • Train for expected daily route goals and inform the Service Manager of all resets, skipped services, work not completed, and work projected to not be completed by 3:30 PM daily.
  • Inspect all equipment when moved to a new trailer.
  • Train on inspecting vehicles and trailers daily and the procedure for new equipment, truck, or trailer assignments.
  • Know and follow all company and department policies and protocols, including the PTO policy.
  • Attend required department meetings and company or vendor training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
