The LPWS (Land-Based Phalanx Weapon System) team is seeking a Chief Engineer to serve as the principal technical authority, overseeing all engineering efforts associated with the LPWS product development within the Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS) portfolio. Reporting directly to the CIWS Portfolio Chief Engineer and the Program Manager, this role entails extensive collaboration with customers, cross-functional teams, and various program offices to deliver innovative technical solutions that meet evolving requirements, enhance system performance, and uphold engineering best practices while ensuring compliance with necessary safeguards. This is an onsite position that can be based in Tucson, AZ or Louisville, KY.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in system design, development, integration/verification, production, and/or sustainment within the Defense industry.
  • Experience presenting technical data and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences, senior-level stakeholders, and customers.
  • Experience working with multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in contractual bidding, ROMs, and execution reviews
  • Experience as a Design Authority / lead engineer within an Engineering Organization.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance after starting.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced in Government Test Ranges and facilities that operate in RF Radiation and live fire environments
  • Familiar with LPWS design, production, mission support, operations, organization and programmatic requirements
  • Experience in development of system architecture and design, performing integration and verification within the system and external prime contractor command and control systems
  • Thorough understanding and familiarity with Raytheon processes.
  • Ability to positively influence internal and external customers to achieve mission success
  • Ability to ensure that the implemented engineering solution adheres to best practice and given due diligence despite pressures of cost and schedule constraints
  • Ability to create a positive environment and strong team collaboration resulting in meeting business and customer commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of approximately 30-40 multidisciplinary engineers, the LPWS Chief Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving successful technical execution across multiple contracts and advancing the program's strategic objectives.
