About The Position

Appointed by the Lakes Ecology & Fisheries Manager and assists with managing the lakes within Hot Springs Village (HSV).

Requirements

  • Technician must have knowledge of boating operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Requires a valid Arkansas drivers’ license and a clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain an Individual Commercial or Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with the help of others.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries science, aquatic ecology, or a closely related field.
  • One year or more of experience at the entry professional level in lake/fisheries management.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to use and operate heavy equipment is preferred.
  • Prefer Certification as a Fisheries Professional by the American Fisheries Society.

Responsibilities

  • Regular attendance is required. Work outside of normal hours on occasion.
  • Operates motorized equipment including but not limited to various boats, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks (non-CD), pickup trucks and trailers. Must be able to back a trailer.
  • Load and unload boats, trucks, and trailers that carry heavy equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist with testing the lakes on a regular basis for complete chemical, physical, and biological analysis.
  • Conduct all aspects of lakes management as assigned by the Lakes Ecology & Fisheries Manager.
  • Assist with maintenance and placement of buoys.
  • Look for erosion and correct where possible.
  • Spray chemicals when necessary for aquatic weed and algae control.
  • Assist in testing for stocking recommendations.
  • Assist in testing for fertilization of the lakes.
  • Work with contractors and other departments as assigned by the Lakes Ecology & Fisheries Manager.
  • Assist with implementation of fisheries management programs on recreational lakes.
  • Collection of money and distribution of envelopes in collection boxes at boat ramps.
  • Annual electrofishing and Arkansas State Plant Board certification.
  • Work with HSV clubs as assigned by Lakes Ecology & Fisheries Manager.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of lakes rules and regulations.
  • Will follow Property Owners’ Association (POA) and state safety regulations.
  • May be required to drive POA or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  • Other duties as assigned.
