The Lactation Consultant role is a casual, part-time position within the AMC Kenosha - Lactation Services department. This role focuses on providing comprehensive lactation support to breastfeeding mothers, both during hospitalization and post-discharge. The consultant will conduct individual assessments, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes. Responsibilities include providing outpatient care, managing services and phone support lines, potentially operating a breast pump rental/retail store, and assisting staff in facilitating patient breastfeeding. The role also involves identifying staff learning needs, providing in-services, offering leadership and direction on breastfeeding to hospital staff, healthcare professionals, and the community, and conducting prenatal breastfeeding classes. The consultant will also review and update educational materials annually and serve as a consultant for physicians and other healthcare providers regarding lactation. This position requires the ability to perform patient positioning and transporting duties, which involve lifting and pushing/pulling. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. This includes assessing patient status, interpreting information, and providing care according to departmental policies and procedures. The role may involve exposure to various hazards, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment.
