About The Position

The Lactation Consultant is an expert in the management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad. This role acts as coach, consultant, teacher, and lactation expert working collaboratively with the Newborn nursery, the Pediatrics clinic and nursing care teams to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate. We will consider candidates for part-time positions. However, part-time hours do not offer any benefits.

Requirements

  • Vocational/Technical Associate’s degree, vocational or technical school degree. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and the effects on lactation for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum patients and newborns to toddlers.
  • Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of the breastfeeding process, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum health care, and psychosocial issues.
  • Ability to provide information and care with consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social, and physical factors.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a varied population including staff, physicians, patients, vendors, and other members of the public on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Nursing
  • 1 year of related experience and experience in teaching one on one or in small groups.
  • Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License.
