About The Position

The Lactation Consultant provides essential lactation consultations to patients, developing personalized care plans to help breastfeeding mothers achieve their goals. This role involves close communication with physicians and hospital staff to ensure seamless continuity of care and follow-up. The consultant also delivers quality education through hands-on instruction in classes, assists patients with breast pump usage and bra fittings, and stays updated on the latest techniques to maintain high standards of care. Additionally, the role requires adherence to hospital policies, safety procedures, and professional development.

Requirements

Lactation consultant certification or equivalent.
Experience in providing lactation consultations.
Knowledge of breastfeeding practices and techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
Understanding of breast pump usage and troubleshooting.
Ability to conduct patient education and classes.
Familiarity with hospital policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

Experience with bra fittings.
Knowledge of Norwegian American Hospital's mission and core values.

Responsibilities

Performs lactation consultations to Humboldt Park Health patients, develops a plan of care that results in meeting the breastfeeding mother’s goals, and provides resources to the patients for follow-up are as needed.
Communicates with physicians, staff and other key hospital personnel to assure continuity of advice, treatment and follow-up plans for patients.
Provides quality education and ongoing evaluation of customer satisfaction for the Hospitals programs by direct hands on instruction in classes to patients.
Assists patients in the use of breast pumps and any problems associated with the breast pumps. Helps other staff members in answering questions and assists patients with bra fittings, as needed.
Maintains consistent quality, stays informed of innovative techniques, and recommends and implements changes as appropriate.
Adheres to downtime procedures.
Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
Performs both essential and non-essential job functions in a safe manner as identified by Humboldt Park Helath.
Demonstrates an understanding of and models the mission and core values of Norwegian American Hospital.
Enhances professional growth and development by accessing educational programs, job related literature, in-service meetings, and workshops/seminars.
Checks hospital email daily.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
