About The Position

The Lactation Consultant RN will deliver lactation services to patients, functioning as an expert resource on breastfeeding issues for patients, families, community, staff, and physicians. This role serves as a clinical expert for lactation issues based on evidence, produces documentation that initiates, follows and revises the patient’s plan of care, and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care. The consultant will review patient medications for potential complications associated with breastfeeding, assess outpatients for symptoms of jaundice and breastfeeding problems, and participate in breast pump rental and retail sales within the Breastfeeding Resource Center.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program OR (RN) Nursing Diploma Required
  • One-year experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) experience or completion of an RN Residency program required.
  • RN – Registered Nurse Upon Hire is Required
  • BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required.
  • NRP - Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program 90 Days Required
  • IBCLC – International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants within 2 years is Required.
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention training maintained annually 90 days required.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN is preferred
  • One year or more of Lactation Consultant RN experience strongly preferred
