The Lactation Consultant RN reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. This role involves participating and assisting in evaluating and improving nursing care of breast-feeding patients, consulting with nursing, medical staff, and other disciplines, and teaching/demonstrating specific nursing care techniques related to breast-feeding patients. The consultant also assists in developing nursing care procedures for breast-feeding patients and effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice. The role follows the nursing process: Assessment, Diagnosis, Outcomes Identification, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation, and Collaboration. It includes creating a documented plan focused on outcomes and decisions related to care and services, considering safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice. Integration of research findings into practice is also a key aspect.
