About The Position

The laborer is committed to supporting Louisiana Bridge Builders by performing a variety of tasks involving physical labor at the Project site.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of related general construction laborer experience
  • Ability to pass the traffic management training courses
  • Ability to be certified, or the ability to obtain certification, to operate any motorized equipment such as forklift, backhoe, front-end loader, etc. that poses a significant safety risk due to its size and operation complexity.
  • Effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, vendors, etc.
  • Ability to use appropriate computer programs (including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite) which includes having proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.
  • Ability to work as a team member and exert initiative to work independently to reach a goal.
  • Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player and collaborator.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime and work additional and/or different hours, including but not limited to nights, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed, to best serve the business operations.
  • Ability to be on-call during designated periods outside of regular working hours, meaning must be available to respond to work-related issues and potentially be at the Project Office and/or Project Job-Site on short notice (i.e. within one (1) hour).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior traffic management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, maintain, and remove temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, stop slow paddles, and rumble strips.
  • Communicating with other flaggers using hand-held radios to direct two-way traffic onto a single lane.
  • Using hand signals and direction signs to direct traffic around road construction site.
  • Appropriately positioning warning and detour signs around the Project area.
  • Direct traffic at construction sites to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists.
  • Set up and remove traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades.
  • Assist in preparing construction site by loading or unloading materials, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, and cleaning up rubble, debris, and other waste materials.
  • Operate motorized equipment including but not limited to Skid steer and forklift.
  • Operate jackhammers to break up existing pavement and tending equipment such as cement mixers or asphalt heaters.
  • Digging trenches, compacting earth, and backfilling holes.
  • Loading and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Pick up all trash, drainage inlet debris, tools, and equipment daily in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site foremen, supervisors, and fellow employees.
  • Maintain constant awareness of the jobsite’s various concurrent activities, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
