About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking skilled Laborers for their 2nd shift manufacturing team. The role involves producing quality mechanical power transmission components, material handling systems, and custom forgings. Responsibilities include interpreting production instructions, preparing and applying coatings, inspecting parts, adhering to safety protocols, maintaining equipment, managing inventory, operating forklifts, supporting assembly, handling materials safely, and maintaining a clean work area. The position requires individuals who can perform repetitive tasks, stand for extended periods, and work in a non-climate-controlled environment.

Requirements

  • Average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English and complete simple logs and reports in English.
  • Skilled in operating various hand and power tools in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proven experience operating forklifts safely in a production environment.
  • Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16th of an inch.
  • Capable of performing simple calculations, reading instructions in English, and completing basic logs and reports.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, and position heavy items regularly throughout the shift.
  • Reliable in working scheduled hours, adhering to timekeeping policies, and following safety and operational procedures.
  • Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled environment and performing repetitive tasks while standing for the entire shift.
  • Ability to work well with others, demonstrate reliability, and maintain accuracy in daily tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Blueprint reading experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret process sheets, blueprints, and supervisor instructions (written/verbal) to complete production tasks accurately.
  • Clean, mask, plug, or block surfaces not to be coated, ensuring all items are ready for finishing.
  • Precisely apply paint or other coating material to both stock and custom parts, avoiding overspray and ensuring even coverage.
  • Verify stenciling accuracy against blueprints and check for defects, performing patching and grinding as needed to meet quality standards.
  • Achieve smooth, even coating free of runs, pinholes, or bare spots. Recoat or touch up as needed to achieve the desired thickness and finish.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing required PPE and safely maneuvering parts using manual techniques or hoists.
  • Clean and maintain spray booths, application equipment, filters, and tanks according to established practices to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Ensure necessary painting and coating supplies are stocked and available.
  • Move completed items to the final inspection or shipping area.
  • Safely operate a forklift to transport materials within the plant, ensuring efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Use powered and manual hand tools to accurately assemble metal components as required by production standards.
  • Inspect finished parts for quality assurance before advancing them to the next department.
  • Maneuver large or heavy parts manually or with crane assistance, prioritizing safe handling practices.
  • Keep equipment, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE throughout the shift.
  • Perform other duties in various departments as assigned based on production needs.
