The Position Incumbent works under the direction of the Douglas County Engineer or designee, performing unskilled and limited semi-skilled tasks of a physically demanding nature. Essential Functions Assist in planting, cutting and trimming of grass, brush and trees. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public. Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment. Clean and rake grounds, operate tree chipper and chain saw. Perform traffic control on worksites (e.g. placing barricades, flagging traffic, directing traffic). Sweep and pick-up refuse on roadways and ditches. Paint road lines, curbs, and other road markings. Clean inlets and operate sewer-cleaning equipment. Load/unload materials, shovel snow, and perform heavy labor activities (e.g. mix and pour mortar/concrete, operate power equipment). Utilize and comply with safety requirements and instructions and personal protective equipment. Install culverts, repair bridges, dig and backfill ditches; erect, repair and clean road signs. Assist in operation of tow truck and operate trucks, tractors and other motorized equipment. Dig holes and cracks in asphalt, repairing using oils, filling, and tamping. Assist in laying and caulking sewers. Perform fine grading using hand tools (e.g. rakes, shovels). Operate all County vehicles under 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight in a safe manner in compliance with all traffic regulations and safety guidelines. Report to work with regular, consistent attendance. Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
