About The Position
Performs various tasks in a landfill including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic at the landfill. This role is essential for maintaining the landfill's operations and ensuring safety. The job involves manual labor and operating equipment to manage waste and traffic flow.
Requirements
- Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Manually picks up windblown paper from the periphery of the landfill, depositing refuse in a large plastic trash bag.
- Uses a mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse, driving a tractor along the landfill border and operating the vacuum hose.
- Directs traffic at the landfill entrance during peak summer months, communicating with drivers verbally or by hand signals.
- Lifts construction materials such as lumber and bags of concrete mix for site maintenance projects.
- Uses hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws.
- Manually separates metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with a transfer station.
