About The Position

Performs various tasks in a landfill including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic at the landfill. This role involves manual labor, operating equipment, and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the landfill. During peak seasons, the laborer will direct traffic at the landfill entrance. The position also includes lifting construction materials and using various hand tools for site maintenance. In landfills with a transfer station, the laborer will manually separate different types of waste.

Requirements

Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

Manually picks up windblown paper from the periphery of the landfill.
Carries a large plastic trash bag and walks along the fenced border of the landfill, as well as on exterior land adjacent to the public property.
Pulls paper from the fence and lifts loose paper from the ground, depositing refuse in bag until full.
Uses mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse.
Drives tractor pulling vacuum along the fenced border of the landfill, as well as on the exterior land adjacent to the public property.
Guides vacuum hose to collect loose paper from the fence and ground.
Repeats vacuum process as necessary while working around the outer edge of the landfill.
Stations at the landfill entrance to direct traffic during heavy traffic periods (summer months).
Directs the flow of trucks using verbal communication or hand signals.
Lifts construction materials for site maintenance projects (e.g., lumber, bags of concrete mix, hand tools).
Uses hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws.
Manually separates metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with a transfer station.
