About The Position

The Laborer II in the Street Department performs maintenance, repair, and construction tasks involving city streets, sidewalks, curbs, and other public infrastructure. The role supports the safety, functionality, and appearance of public spaces. This is an essential service position that requires providing services during emergency situations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class C driver's license at the time of placement.
• Knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and equipment used in street maintenance and repair.
• Effective communication skills for interacting professionally with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and members of the public.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment used in street maintenance and repair.
• Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions and environments.

• Previous experience in street maintenance, construction, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Inspect streets, sidewalks, curbs, and other public infrastructure for defects, damage, and hazards requiring maintenance or repair.
• Perform maintenance and repairs, including patching potholes, repairing cracks, and replacing damaged pavement sections.
• Assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining street signs, guardrails, traffic barriers, and pavement markings in compliance with safety standards.
• Safely operate tools and equipment such as jackhammers, saws, and concrete mixers.
• Coordinate work activities and respond to service requests or emergencies with street department staff, utility workers, contractors, and external agencies.
• Maintain records and documentation of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspection reports, and material usage.
• Follow safety protocols and regulations, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment and compliance with traffic-control measures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Provide services during emergency situations.
