About The Position

Performs unskilled labor to assist with road repairs and other crew assignments. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours weekly; scheduled and unscheduled overtime may be required. The position works under the supervision of the Foreman or Crew Leader and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Michigan driver’s license with no more than five points on record and no drug- or alcohol-related driving convictions.
Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
Knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment.
Ability to understand, speak, read, and write in English.
Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and efficiently under time constraints.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
Ability to exercise judgment, work professionally, and maintain confidentiality when necessary.
Ability to apply the department’s overall mission when making support decisions.
Ability to follow complex instructions and identify and work within applicable guidelines.
Ability to maintain professional conduct when interacting with the public, fellow employees, and contractors.

Nice To Haves

Three years of cumulative experience in building maintenance, construction, landscaping, or a similar field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform street maintenance.
Operate snow removal equipment.
Operate lawn maintenance equipment.
Operate tree trimming equipment.
Install and repair traffic signs.
Maintain buildings.
Establish and maintain effective communication and working relations with coworkers, other City staff, and the public.
Comply with and ensure safe work standards and practices.
Coordinate with internal DPW staff.
Perform other duties as required.
