About The Position

Under close supervision, performs a variety of duties operating tools and equipment in order to assist with activities of the Public Works Department. Essential job functions are Division specific as listed below.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid GA Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to follow proper safety precautions.
  • Ability to navigate different routes throughout the city.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Empty trash and recycling cans.
  • Look for and pick up loose trash/debris from parks, building grounds, and/or streets and rights-of-way areas, as assigned.
  • Use pressure washers or other cleaning equipment to wash buildings, sidewalks, walls, and other outdoor structures.
  • Conduct traffic control when working in traffic areas; install cones/barricades prior to work performance; direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Operate push mowers, lawn tractors, line and blade trimmers, edgers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and a variety of hand tools, as assigned.
  • Mow, edge, and trim turf areas, using power and hand tools.
  • Plant and maintain vegetation such as trees, shrubs, flowers, perennial plants, and groundcovers, including mulch materials.
  • Clear debris and waste from landscaped areas, including weeds and dead plants.
  • Responsible for rolling curbside containers of garbage and dumping into truck hopper.
  • Assists in the pick-up of garbage cans for residents with approved disabilities.
  • Picks up appliances, furniture, limbs, and bulk items by hand or with hand tools.
  • Aides in transporting collected material to the landfill/ transfer station.
  • Assists operator CCTV (camera) truck conducting stormwater pipeline inspections.
  • Assist other Stormwater Division staff in asset management inspections. This includes, clearing vegetation for access, lifting manhole lids and grates, and removing debris and obstructions for stormwater conveyances.
  • Knowledgeable of stormwater requirements and able to convey those requirements to residents if approached.
  • On days when CCTV truck is not in use, complete the following duties (as directed): ROW & Parks maintenance, Washing of equipment, Provide vehicle maintenance assistance, Assist in the collection of debris, Assist in the collection of appliances, electronics, and scrap metal for recycling.
