About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating various machine tools such as Tape Controlled Lathe, Conventional Lathe, Post Mill, or Milling Machine for the production of rolls, shafts, and similar items. The position also includes performing a variety of laborer duties throughout the plant, including material handling, cleaning, and general labor tasks.

Requirements

Ability to set up and operate Tape Controlled Lathe, Conventional Lathe, Post Mill, or Milling Machine.
Proficiency in using cutting tools, calipers, rules, micrometers, gauges, indicators, wrenches, and other ordinary hand tools.
Ability to read and interpret numerical tape programs, work orders, and prints.
Experience with setting up machines for various sizes and operations.
Skill in performing machining operations to required dimensional specifications and tolerances.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments to check finished sizes.
Willingness to sharpen own tools.
Ability to clean, lubricate, and perform minor adjustments or replacements on machines.
Ability to remove chips from machines and maintain a clean work area.
Ability to perform general labor duties.
Experience with wheelbarrow, shovel, broom, hooks, chains, cables, hammer, sledges, wrenches, air hammer, and floor operated crane.
Ability to transport materials using a wheelbarrow or crane service.
Ability to operate a pendant control crane.
Ability to use wrenches, bars, pins, and sledgehammers.
Ability to load and unload trucks.
Ability to block rolls or material.
Ability to clean painted or greased rolls.
Ability to break concrete with an air hammer.
Ability to perform plant janitor services, including snow shoveling and cleaning walks/roadways.
Must pass a pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate Tape Controlled Lathe, Conventional Lathe, Post Mill, or Milling Machine.
Produce rolls, shafts, and other items according to specifications.
Receive and interpret numerical tape programs, work orders, prints, and instructions from the Foreman.
Locate, position, and transfer work pieces using crane assistance.
Set up machines by adjusting components like tail stock, head stock jaws, roll clamping, and v-blocks.
Insert proper tape into the tape reader and set up profile attachments.
Adjust stops, feeds, speeds, and numerical tape controls for machining operations.
Check and record dimensions of forged or rolled items, comparing them to print specifications.
Operate tape control lathe under semi-automatic control and perform attendant functions.
Perform various machining operations including straight and taper turning, boring, threading, facing, drilling, tapping, reaming, plugging, and mill work.
Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and gauges to verify finished sizes.
Sharpen machine tools as needed.
Clean, lubricate, and perform minor adjustments or replacements on machines; assist in repairs.
Remove chips from machines and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Perform general labor duties for the plant, such as removing scrap from machines.
Transport tools, shop supplies, and lubricants using a wheelbarrow or crane service.
Operate a pendant control crane to move product or material.
Assist in installing or removing center plugs and mounting grinding wheels.
Assist in tearing down, piling, and transferring rolls.
Load and unload trucks, manually or using crane service, and block rolls or material.
Weigh rolls as instructed.
Clean painted or greased rolls using solvent and rags.
Occasionally use an air hammer to break concrete.
Perform plant janitor services, including shoveling snow and cleaning walks and roadways.
Perform other miscellaneous clean-up or labor work as directed.
