About The Position

Kashi Clinical Laboratories is a small, collaborative clinical laboratory team focused on quality, reliability, and speed. The Laboratory Technologist performs high-complexity testing in histocompatibility, transcriptomics, molecular pathology, or toxicology. The role follows applicable CLIA, CAP, ASHI, and New York State Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program standards and contributes to accurate, dependable testing for physicians and patients. The position reports to the Laboratory Supervisor/Laboratory Manager. It includes laboratory testing and quality control, equipment and LIMS operation, accurate documentation and reporting, regulatory and safety compliance, staff support and training, and participation in proficiency testing, research, and procedure development. The role may assume designated lead responsibilities.

Requirements

At least a bachelor's degree in biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science; other degrees may be accepted if the applicant has completed the credit hours required by CLIA.
Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of NACES or AICE.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Ability to write legibly and apply basic math skills.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Fluent oral and written communication in English.
Ability to perform detailed work while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Ability to remain self-confident and decisive in pressure situations, including staff conflicts and problems.
Ability to communicate calmly, professionally, and in a controlled manner with hospital personnel, clients, patients and families, and the medical/legal community, including in routine and crisis situations.
Ability to speak in front of small and large groups.
Ability to sit or stand frequently for long periods, handle and grasp items with dexterity, and lift and carry up to 25 pounds from above shoulder height and from less than one foot from the floor.
Ability to perform occasional repetitive work, crouching, stooping, pushing, and pulling, and to handle chemicals and body fluids safely.
Ability to occasionally wash hands and use gloves, splash barriers, and a gown or laboratory coat.

Responsibilities

Perform manual and automated laboratory testing procedures accurately and efficiently.
Prepare reagents and solutions according to standard protocols.
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
Conduct laboratory quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Participate in internal or external proficiency testing, clinical studies, and research activities.
Evaluate, record, and maintain accurate, legible, and complete test results and records.
Generate reports, maintain records, and investigate and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality of test and patient or donor information.
Comply with applicable regulations, laboratory policies and procedures, quality assurance requirements, and safety standards.
Assume designated lead responsibilities, including record review, supply management, staff training, and workflow oversight.
Operate the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and maintain competence in its use.
Present in-service training to other staff as needed.
Attend and participate in general and departmental meetings.
Assist with development, review, and validation of standard operating procedures.
Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor or laboratory director.
