About The Position

This position is responsible for performing assigned departmental duties within the microbiology laboratory. This includes processing various samples, conducting microbial cultures, isolation, and identification using standard microbiological techniques. The role requires adherence to cGMP and other regulatory requirements, accurate evaluation and reporting of test results, and proper operation of laboratory equipment. The position also involves maintaining records, managing supplies, and contributing to team projects for process improvements and validations. A positive work attitude, respect for colleagues, excellent customer service, and adherence to all safety, regulatory, and quality requirements are essential. The role also includes participating in continuing education, assisting with training, and potentially performing duties in other laboratory areas.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work relative to the field of assignment.
  • Requires one year of microbiology experience.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, including aseptic technique, microbial culture, identification, and enumeration methods.
  • Must have a working knowledge of laboratory sciences and techniques.
  • Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills.
  • Must maintain competency in laboratory skills for liquid and material handling.
  • Must be capable of evaluating, interpreting and reporting accurate/valid test results by current testing methodologies.
  • Must be able to keep information confidential.
  • Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.
  • Must be professional, detail oriented, self-motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability to work independently.
  • Must perform well in repetitive work situations.
  • Must be able to work with interruptions, meet deadlines, and perform accurate work and/or reports.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Will sit, stand, walk, and bend during working hours.
  • Requires to reach, lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing corrected to a normal range.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid United States Driver’s License
  • Network+, Security+ or Cisco Certified Technician Routing and Switching desired.
  • CCNA, or higher-level certification preferred.
  • Prefer two or more years of microbiology experience.

Responsibilities

  • Competently perform all assigned departmental duties.
  • May perform Pre on a variety of samples, including donor, environmental, raw material, and biologic product samples.
  • Conduct microbial culture, isolation, and identification using standard microbiological techniques.
  • Read and interpret microbial growth on plates and perform isolation plating.
  • Culture tissue samples using aseptic techniques.
  • Adhere to cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and other regulatory requirements applicable to microbiological testing.
  • Evaluate test results in an accurate and timely manner and recognize and report unusual test results.
  • Operate equipment utilizing established protocols and within quality control limits.
  • Recognize equipment malfunctions and/or technical problems and take appropriate steps to resolve.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare and maintain reports/records and perform computer data entry.
  • Maintain departmental supplies within established inventory levels.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
