About The Position

Doncasters is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join their team in Long Beach, CA. This role involves the daily analysis of various elements associated with alloy manufacturing using specialized equipment. The technician will interact with Technical, Quality, EH&S, and Production staff, requiring computer proficiency, knowledge of chemistry/science and math, and strong communication and organizational skills. The company is a specialist manufacturer of complex precision cast components for aerospace engines and industrial gas turbines, supporting leading OEM programs globally with over 3,000 employees across 14 facilities.

Requirements

  • Computer knowledge (including experience with spreadsheets).
  • Some college-level chemistry/science and math courses.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Flexibility with scheduling.
  • Ability to adjust priorities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan each task in advance.
  • Proficient with computers (excel, word, Microsoft).
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds individually and in a team environment.
  • Required to stand during majority of shift.
  • Required dexterity and strength to manipulate samples and/or instrumentation during routine tasks, finding/storing samples and supplies.
  • Associates degree in chemistry or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience operating lab instrumentation.
  • Completion of at least one college-level chemistry class.
  • Experience in a test lab environment.
  • Experience with test lab equipment such as: GFAA (Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption), ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) spectrometers, OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer), XRF (X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer), Carbon/Sulfur and Oxygen/Nitrogen Analysers.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in science or equivalent.
  • Manufacturing industry experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily activity that involves analysis of a variety of elements associated with alloy manufacturing using ICP spectroscopy, OES, XRF, Carbon/Sulfur and Oxygen/Nitrogen/Hydrogen Analyzers, and various laboratory preparation instrumentation/tooling.
  • Interact with Technical, Quality, EH&S, and Production staff.
  • Analyze data and calculate element additions.
  • Follow instructions, be flexible with scheduling, adjust priorities, communicate well, be organized and plan each task in advance.
  • Stand during majority of shift.
  • Exhibit dexterity and strength to manipulate samples and/or instrumentation during routine tasks, finding/storing samples and supplies.
