About The Position

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates (HCEA) is a top-tier, multi-disciplined engineering firm with 30 years of demonstrated success. As a Laboratory Technician in the State College, PA office, you will play an integral role in the success of our organization. As part of this team, you will work independently and in collaboration with our knowledgeable, dynamic staff on a wide variety of land development and construction projects.

Requirements

  • High School degree or GED equivalent
  • Valid (ACI, ICC, NICET, etc.) certifications are a plus and will result in higher starting pay!
  • Ability to meet pre-employment criteria, including motor vehicle record.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic computations.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Being enrolled in college or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Geology a plus

Responsibilities

  • Processing concrete test cylinders (stripping, logging, and curing).
  • Performing compressive strength testing of concrete test cylinders.
  • Performing soils lab tests to include Proctors, Atterberg limits and sieve analysis.
  • Calibrating field testing equipment.
  • Maintain field equipment inventory.
  • Report laboratory testing results to the project team verbally or in writing.
  • Interacting with senior staff members, including the lab manager on a variety of projects, as needed.
  • Support a clean, safe, efficient laboratory environment.
