About The Position

The Laboratory Technician will support vector biology and genetic research as part of the Target Malaria consortium, an international initiative to reduce malaria transmission. This role involves maintaining medically important mosquito colonies, including transgenic strains, and assisting with laboratory experiments in a controlled insectary environment. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Laboratory Technician will follow established protocols, support experimental workflows, collect and record data, and help ensure high standards of laboratory operations and biosafety. The position requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work both independently and within a structured laboratory setting. This position is full-time (40 hours per week), with occasional weekend and holiday work required to support time-sensitive colony maintenance and experimental schedules. The staff member will be employed by the CDC Foundation and assigned to work on-site at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Roybal Campus in Atlanta, Georgia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, entomology, or a related scientific field
  • Hands-on laboratory or research experience
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately maintain records and manage data
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar tools)

Responsibilities

  • Rear and maintain transgenic and non-transgenic strains of mosquitoes
  • Perform molecular and morphological authentications of mosquito stocks
  • Maintain thorough systematic records (paper and electronic) of data related to mosquito maintenance and experiments
  • Conduct experiments under the guidance of project leadership
  • Perform general lab maintenance and cleaning
  • Follow established biosafety protocols and procedures and attend necessary safety trainings
  • As required by the project, participate in limited travel
  • Other duties as assigned
