ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician to join their Houston team. The role offers opportunities for growth with additional incentives as certifications are earned. No prior experience is needed, as the technician will work under the guidance of experienced professionals to learn to safely perform a variety of tasks in concrete and soils laboratories. Requirements

  • No experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain laboratory certifications for concrete or soils; Both will be required if work will be performed in both labs.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must have valid driver's license and insurance.
  • Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT laboratory equipment, testing methods, and ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, or both.
  • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • The following US Military ranks will qualify for this position IF they also meet the education, certification, and licenses requirements from the above section titled "Required Qualifications": E-4

Responsibilities

  • Perform specific tasks associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of senior technicians and other lab staff.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance.
  • Assist with tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance.
  • Tasks may include calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records.
  • Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and begin learning how to visually classify soils.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests for concrete including labeling and setting samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and breaking of samples.
  • Perform calculations and data reduction based on test results.
  • Demonstrate competency of testing methods by documenting results accurately.
  • May perform administrative duties as requested.
