About The Position

Hyalex Orthopaedics is an award winning, venture funded medical device start-up developing transformational synthetic cartilage technology and implant systems for diseased and damaged joints. We address unmet clinical needs to improve patient quality of life so that we all can Be Active and Stay Active. Our Hyalex team is comprised of industry leaders, innovators, and experts who have developed and launched many successful commercial products as well as a team of brilliant engineers, scientists and medical professionals. The Lab Technician at Hyalex Orthopaedics plays a crucial role in the development of innovative biomimetic cartilage implants. This position involves working in a dynamic environment that includes office space, R&D laboratories, and ISO 7 cleanroom operations. Responsibilities will include preparing chemical buffer solutions, setting up and dismantling chemical reactor systems, and assembling implant constructs, all while maintaining the rigorous documentation required by ISO 13485 medical device standards. As a part of the full-time, dedicated manufacturing team, work hours are Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though some off-hour or weekend work may be necessary based on project needs. This is a hands-on, onsite position located in Lexington, MA, close to Route 2 and I-95.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field with 0-2 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree with 1-3 years of experience, or a a High School Diploma with 2-4 years of technical, chemical, or mechanical manufacturing experience
  • Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing with a background in chemical manufacturing and cleanroom environment
  • Familiarity with chemical mixing, sterile processing, precision mechanical assembly, and use of measurement and inspection equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, fostering collaboration and alignment
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude in performing daily tasks
  • Adaptable and observant with a strong work ethic and a self-motivated, hands-on approach
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and cGMP standards is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and verbal guidance to manufacture, insect, and test chemical mixtures, mechanical assemblies, and packaged products
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
  • Understand and accurately interpret process documentation, technical drawings, and inspection criteria
  • Maintain safety standards by wearing appropriate PPE and managing chemical waste according to guidelines
  • Use precision measurement tools such as analytical balances, pH meters, micrometers, and calipers
  • Record data accurately in spreadsheets and databases for proper documentation
  • Support experiments and investigations, collaborating with the engineering team
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude in performing daily tasks
  • Safely handle and work with chemicals and solutions, adhering to all safety protocols
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, fostering collaboration and alignment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
