About The Position

The Bureau of Water Resource Information is seeking a Laboratory Technician. The primary duty will be to assist/lead morning sample check in, which includes unloading samples from coolers, organizing and checking sample temperature and pH, processing samples into LIMS, printing labels for samples, and racking samples in proper storage bins. The role also involves cleaning the sample check-in area, sending email confirmations for cooler pickup, and preparing coolers and/or supplies for delivery. Additional duties include lab maintenance, document processing, and performing safety checks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 8 months of laboratory experience
  • Formal education containing laboratory course work may substitute for work experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences

Responsibilities

  • Assist with morning sample check in: unload samples from coolers, organize and check sample temperature and pH, process samples into LIMS, print and adhere labels to samples, rack samples in proper storage bins, clean sample check-in area after morning task is complete, send email confirmation for cooler pickup to courier, print and label coolers and/or supplies for delivery; prepare TP/TKN digestion tubes and BOD bottles for analytical samples.
  • Perform lab maintenance and housekeeping: cooler clean out and sample dump; recycle plastic sample bottles; perform sample dump for metals; change out broken glass bin; recycle glass containers; dump analyst reagent waste; clean and organize cylinder/cooler storage room.
  • Process documents: file rerun documentation, pull approved files for review; scan procurement receiving and certificate of analysis documents.
  • Perform safety checks for eyewashes, showers, and fire extinguishers.
