About The Position

Provide laboratory support for the ethanol facility to ensure the safety and contents of products, as well as providing information to management for production parameters, process improvements, and overall efficiency of operations at Purefield Ingredients. This role requires an individual to perform essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations made for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Shift Supervisor, Production Superintendent and production Operators to ensure production is functioning within parameters.
  • Perform final testing & Complete Certificate of Analysis (COA) for outgoing ethanol, wetcake and DDGS shipments.
  • Collect and test samples of wetcake and DDGS for moisture levels & Mycotoxins on all third party comparison samples, record results.
  • Maintain inventory, receive purchase orders and order supplies as needed for the ethanol laboratory.
  • Monitor ethanol processing by analyzing samples for percent of solids on slurry, liquefaction, syrup and centrate using IR Moisture Analyzer or Oven, and IR.
  • Perform Brix test on obtained fermentation and propagation samples and measure total sugars in samples using Brix Refractometer and sample filter every ½ to 1 hour, record results.
  • Analyze samples using HPLC to measure amounts of sugars, acids and ethanol in fermentation and yeast propagation tanks, record results.
  • Determine pH levels on slurry, liquefaction, yeast propagation and fermentation and other samples in process, record results.
  • Prepare stock chemicals for laboratory use.
  • Perform yeast cell counts to determine levels of propagation and fermentation by looking at viability, budding, and total count, record results.
  • Collect sample and perform granulation tests to obtain the percentage retained on sieves and thereby monitor the effectiveness of the hammermill, record results.
  • Perform Dextrin Equivalent (D&E) test on liquid and slurry to determine how well enzymes are working, correct amounts of enzymes to be used, and to measure hydrolysis of starch, record results.
  • Clean laboratory area and equipment to ensure a clean and safe work area.
  • Assist Manager as requested and take on some functions when Manager is on vacation, time off or unavailable.
  • Calibrate equipment as scheduled to ensure proper operation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
